ELO-INDIVIDUAL

The tailor-made induction hardening plant or system concept for your application

With ELO-INDIVIDUAL, SMS Elotherm GmbH now provides tailor-made solutions for individual customer requirements with regard to process/procedures, cycle time, workpiece geometry, transport concept and material flow. The comprehensive workpiece spectrum includes, for example, all axis and drive-line components as well as steering and transmission components. In addition, chain links, guide rails and many other components from mechanical engineering, as well as tools such as e.g. machine knives and files can be processed with these configurable modular concepts for induction hardening. SMS Elotherm GmbH possesses extensive leading process know-how  to implement safe and highly productive hardening processes on complex geometries and demanding workpieces.

Fully automated operation with shorter cycle times

When a fully automated operation with short cycle times is required, then a modular system is always the right decision. The concept allows for seamless machine integration  into existing production lines. The machine can be equipped with several stations, depending on the induction hardening task at hand. The modular machine concept allows for decoupling of  internal workpiece transport and workpiece clamping in the individual hardening stations. The operator thus needs to examine and evaluate only one workpiece for quality approval, which therefore considerably reduces the quality approval process.

Machinery variants

The modular ELO-INDIVIDUAL system solution

is designed for cost-efficient induction applications with shorter cycle times, a high degree of integration, frequently switching hardening tasks and special solutions. Components of various geometries can be induction hardened quickly and safely with these machine types. Among other things, the spectrum comprises many automotive components, such as e.g. for axles and drive trains as well as for steering and transmission systems. In addition, components from the agricultural and construction machinery industry such as chain links, track drives, guide wheels, gears, bearing rings and tools such as e.g. machine knives and files, as well as many other components from mechanical engineering, can also be hardened.

Our additional processes

*) Various additional processes such as induction hardening under inert gas, alignment of the workpieces, sensing the shoulder height, after-cooling, blowing or drying, marking, hardness testing, extraction with filter, reading and writing DMC code, washing, after-cooling, automatic alignment and/or straightening etc. can be integrated into the concepts.

Concept for short cycle time requirements for hardening of automotive components

The indexing table  variant provides simple integration into production lines using plate chain transportation.

  • 2 hardening stations each with a 4-position indexing table
  • Gripper transport in the machine
  • Cycle time <13 seconds per workpiece possible
  • Integration of additional processes *)

Concept for hardening and annealing of automotive components

The in-line variant provides simple integration into production lines with plate chain transportation.

  • 2 hardening stations for shaft and bell (tripod)
  • 2 annealing stations for independent processing of shaft and bell (4 power channels)
  • Gripper transport in the machine
  • Cycle time <18 seconds per workpiece possible
  • Integration of additional processes *)

Concept for a fully automated manufacturing cell

These configurable manufacturing cells enable customized solutions for induction hardening, induction annealing and additional machining processes for e.g. gear racks and/or shafts of any kind. A robot unit serves as a central handling unit for the individual production positions. This means that loading/ unloading can take place parallel to the hardening process.

  • 2 hardening stations with a separate induction unit for annealing
  • Handling of the entire cell by a robot unit (or portal)
  • Induction hardening process also under inert gas
  • Modular cell design possible for cycle time requirements of 10-40 seconds
  • Integration of single, twin or indexing table concepts
  • Integration of additional processes *)

Concept for hardening of components in the tool industry

The 180° indexing table variant allows for  robot loading / unloading (alternatively as manual operation). Loading/ unloading can take place parallel to the hardening process.

  • 1 indexing table with 5 positions each for loading/ unloading and hardening of the workpieces
  • Hardening station for simultaneous hardening of 5 workpieces by scanning
  • Variable number of workpieces depending on cycle time requirement
  • Cycle time of 8 seconds per workpiece possible
  • Integration of additional processes *)

Concept for every dimension and extremely universal usability

This variant is the universal induction hardening solution for a wide variety of workpieces in a wide range of dimensions. From individual production up to small and medium-sized series processes, from horizontal and vertical scanning to single shot induction hardening processes, this type of machine type covers everything.

  • Various clamping possibilities for a wide variety of very varied workpieces
  • Separate workpiece mounting position: vertical and horizontal with suitably designed drive units for workpiece rotation
  • Fully automated hardening process because of  an NC-controlled inductor transformer unit and NC turntable
  • Strengthened mechanical design
  • Available with or without hinged counter-holder for shaft hardening
  • Maximum workpiece data:
    • Length: up to 4,000 mm
    • Diameter: up to 6,000 mm
    • Weight: up to 6,000 kg
  • Integration of additional processes *)

Your advantages

  • High availability and reproducibility with customized efficient induction solutions by using reliable and efficient technology
  • Individual machine concepts (vertical or horizontal) with optimal process design
  • Excellent acessibility for service and repair
  • Customised and preventative service programmes
  • Integration of ELO-CONNECT for all concepts
